SUMMARY DRAFT 2 + THESIS (APPLE VISION PRO)
Summary
The webpage "Vision Pro" from Apple Inc. (2023) introduces a mixed-reality headset that seamlessly integrates augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). It demonstrates how this technology is significant in the era of spatial computing. According to Apple Inc. (2023), the Vision Pro allows users to completely immerse themselves in a virtual reality environment or add an augmented reality layer to their surroundings. The design features a single piece of three-dimensionally moulded laminated glass integrated into an aluminium alloy frame that curves around the user's face, with a light seal to block out stray light. It also has a Solo Knit Band that can be adjusted with the Fit Dial on the Vision Pro to personalise the fit according to your head size. In terms of technology, the Vision Pro has dual 4K micro-OLED displays, high dynamic range (HDR) for superior color accuracy and contrast, spatial audio surround sound, and precision eye tracking for seamless interactions just by looking at the elements. Finally, it is powered by the M2 chip running on Apple's visionOS, designed for spatial computing, along with the R1 chip, which is dedicated to processing input from cameras, sensors, and microphones while streaming images to the display within 12 milliseconds. Priced at S$5,299, the device can be used for professional applications such as visualising data and designs or simulating training and entertainment by converting any environment into your own personal cinema.Thesis
The Apple Vision Pro is a headset favored by Apple users for work, offering user comfort with it's customizability coupled with the ability to multitask as well as integrate seamlessly with the Apple ecosystem.
The Apple Vision Pro's maximizes comfort through customizability making it a desirable headset. According to Apple Inc(n.d.), the customizability of the Apple Vision Pro maximizes user comfort. The headset comes with a Solo Knit headband designed to provide cushioning, breathability and stretch, and a Fit Dial for adjustable tightness, as well as a Dual Loop headband featuring an adjustable upper and lower strap for an exact fit . When purchasing the product, users are required to go through a face scan on the Apple website allowing Apple to provide the right size for the components. Users who require vision correction have the option of using ZEISS optical inserts for a better viewing experience.
The Apple Vision Pro's ability to multitask with thousands of IOS through integration with the Apple ecosystem makes it desirable for Apple users leveraging it for work. Adronico (2024) stated that the Apple Vision Pro performs well as a primary work device straight out of the box. However, its ability to integrate with the MacBook allowing users to seamlessly port their MacBook display onto the Apple Vision Pro converting it into an adjustable virtual 4K as well as control both devices using the MacBook keyboard and trackpad seamlessly truly enhances the multitasking experience. The Apple Vision Pro also has the ability to transform your entire home into an office. According to Axon, S (2024), users can appoint different rooms in their living space for different tasks by deploying a wide selection of IOS apps throughout their living space based on their preferred setup. This feature provides a new working experience for users, allowing them to walk around their homes while seamlessly working on various tasks. Additionally, non-work related apps like Apple TV can be positioned away from work-related apps like Microsoft Word at the dining room table boosting productivity.
One of the main downsides of the Apple Vision Pro is its price. The article "I'm running out of reasons to wear it after one week" from Hart (2024) states that, at $3500(S$5299), it is considered to be too expensive for the average consumer especially for what it has to offer in its current iteration. (Hart, 2024) According to Rak Design(n.d.), although its ability to integrate with the Apple ecosystem is a plus, it can be a limitation for users who are reliant on other operating systems for work.
In conclusion, the Apple Vision Pro is a cutting-edge device suitable for professional use, offering user comfort, multitasking capabilities, and seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem. These features make it a strong contender in the VR/AR market, though its high price and compatibility limitations may restrict its appeal to a broader audience.
